The US Navy's aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt departed from San Diego on September 27. Along with this, Carrier Strike Group 9 is also deployed. According to American officials, about 9,000 additional soldiers and marines may be included in this deployment.
According to reports, after this move, three US aircraft carriers may be present in West Asia for some time. This is happening at a time when President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of further military action against Iran. However, one purpose of the current deployment may also be to replace US ships already in the area.
USS Theodore Roosevelt began her deployment from San Diego, California, on 27 September. It is the lead ship of Carrier Strike Group 9 and includes aircraft, destroyers and other supporting warships. According to reports from the US Navy, this group may move further into the area of the US Central Command.
According to News, one possible purpose of Theodore Roosevelt's arrival in West Asia is to relieve the USS George Washington which had arrived from Japan. Therefore, it would be premature to consider its deployment as a direct preparation for a new attack.
Apart from Theodore Roosevelt, USS Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group has also headed to the area. Information about the presence of more than 2,000 marines has come to light. The increase in US military deployment comes at a time when Trump has left open the possibility of another attack against Iran in the future. According to the AP and other reports, Trump has said there is a possibility of increased bombing of Iran after the November 3 US midterm elections.
