Washington: US President Donald Trump has made a significant statement adopting an even tougher stance against Iran. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, "We are going to attack them; we are going to strike very hard." According to the US news channel Fox News, Trump added, "We struck them hard yesterday, and today we are going to hit them hard again."

What did Donald Trump say?

When asked about the lack of consensus on a peace agreement with Iran, Trump stated that the US seeks a deal that is effective and lasting. He said, "We want an agreement that actually works and can bring stability to the region." According to the US President, Iran has already agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, though a formal agreement between the two sides has yet to be signed.

Trump hinted that if negotiations fail, the US might resort to military action. His statement has raised concerns about further escalating the existing tensions in West Asia. It is worth noting that the US and Iran have long been at odds over Iran's nuclear program. While there have been several rounds of talks between the two nations in recent months, no final agreement has been reached so far. Trump also made another major claim regarding Iran, stating that the US has been extracting oil from Iran for a long time—information that is being made public for the first time.

How did Iran react?

Reacting to Trump's threat, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on the social media platform X, "Critical infrastructure constitutes the lifeline of any country and its citizens. Threats to target services such as transportation networks, power grids, and water supplies are not a display of strength but a sign of desperation in the face of a nation's unwavering resolve. Relying on the expertise and capabilities of its specialists, as well as national unity and solidarity, Iran will firmly confront any pressure or threat and remain steadfast in its principles." We are extracting millions of barrels of oil from Iran: Trump

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, "I am announcing this for the first time today, but we are extracting millions of barrels of oil every night. Iran has only just found out about this." Trump claimed that this action by the US has impacted the global oil market. He stated, "Millions of barrels of oil have entered the market, and that is why oil prices are hovering around $85 to $90 per barrel. Otherwise, the price could have reached $250 per barrel."

However, Trump did not provide further details regarding this alleged operation or the oil extraction process, nor did he clarify the nature of the action being taken. Meanwhile, Trump reiterated that the US remains open to a deal with Iran. He said, "We want a deal that is meaningful and actually works." Trump's latest remarks come at a time of ongoing tension between the US and Iran over the nuclear program, regional security, and the safety of maritime routes. Talks between the two nations are continuing, but no agreement has been reached yet.
