Washington: The situation between America and Iran has become heated again. US President Donald Trump has made it clear that any deal with Iran will happen only if Tehran accepts America's conditions. The biggest condition is a permanent ban on Iran's nuclear weapons programme. Trump also said that if necessary, America will not shy away from taking military action against Iran again.
There was also a face-off between the two countries over Hormuz. The US military claims to have intercepted a Gambian-flagged cargo ship. This ship was going towards the port of Iran. According to American officials, the engine room of the ship was targeted and stopped so that it could not move further. Iran has not yet given any statement on this.
Amidst the tension, the window for dialogue has not been completely closed. The White House has indicated that President Trump is considering a possible agreement. On the other hand, Iran says that no final deal has been reached yet. Only messages are being exchanged from both sides. Iran also said that the management of the Strait of Hormuz is the sole matter of Iran and Oman.
In a defence conference held in Singapore, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said that America has a lot of military power and weapons. If needed, we can restart any operation. His statement has sparked a new debate in the area. Amidst the efforts at diplomacy, this kind of thing has increased the concern.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai said that the issue of Hormuz will be decided only by Iran and Oman. At the same time, some fundamentalist leaders of Iran have opposed the deal with America. They say that this agreement is not in the interest of the country. There is pressure on the government not to bow before America.
Amidst this tension there is also news of relief. The oil market has softened due to the expectation of the ceasefire extending for a few more days and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude prices in the international market have reached their lowest level in six weeks. One-third of the world's oil passes through this route.
America has also increased economic pressure on Iran. According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, about one billion dollars of Iran's cryptocurrency has been seized. On the other hand, there is tension on the Israel-Lebanon border also. The Israeli army has taken action in many areas of southern Lebanon. Currently, the whole world is watching whether America and Iran come to the negotiating table or West Asia moves towards another war.
