New Delhi: The Jeffrey Epstein files recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice have caused a worldwide controversy. These millions of pages of documents mention Russian President Vladimir Putin at least 1005 times. According to the report, most of the mentions are related to news clippings or reports that were sent to Epstein, but some emails mention repeated attempts to arrange a meeting between Epstein and Putin. However, nowhere in these files is there any evidence that the two ever actually met.

According to the report, Epstein attempted to establish contact with Russian officials, former ambassadors, and even individuals connected to the FSB. This revelation has fueled speculation about honeytraps and espionage. Following the release of the report, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced an investigation, calling it a major scandal linked to Russian intelligence agencies, while the Kremlin dismissed the claims as nonsense.

Did Jeffery Epstein meet the Russian ambassador?

According to the released documents, Epstein regularly met with Russia's former ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, in New York. Epstein even offered Churkin's son, Maxim, a job at a prominent wealth management company in New York. After Churkin's sudden death in 2017, Epstein began looking for new ways to maintain contact with Russia. In June 2018, Epstein emailed Norwegian politician Thorbjørn Jagland (who was then the Secretary General of the Council of Europe).

In this email, he wrote that Jagland should suggest to Putin that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov could contact him for information. Epstein wrote that Churkin was very good; he had understood Trump after listening to him. Jagland replied that he would convey the message to Lavrov's assistant.

What is the Russian espionage and investment connection?

According to reports, Epstein also had connections with officials like Sergei Belyakov, who is said to have links to Russia's intelligence agency (FSB). He also attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and advised Russian officials on attracting Western investment. According to reports, Epstein even sought a Russian visa as recently as 2019. However, these documents do not contain any concrete evidence to prove that Epstein ever met with Putin.

Why did Poland Prime Minister order an investigation?

Following this revelation, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that his country would launch an investigation into Epstein's potential ties to Russian intelligence agencies. He stated that the growing clues, information, and comments appearing in the global press point to the suspicion that this unprecedented child sexual abuse scandal was orchestrated by Russian intelligence services.

What did Russia say?

On the other hand, the Russian government has dismissed these claims. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the claims about Epstein and Russian espionage should not be taken seriously. He told reporters that this theory could be taken in any way, but not seriously. He added, "I feel like making a lot of jokes about such theories, but let's not waste our time."
