Why Donald Trump didn't get Nobel Peace Prize: Norwegian Committee Explains

Nobel Peace Prize 2025: The Norwegian Nobel Committee today announced the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Notably, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 has been awarded to Venezuela's opposition leader and democracy activist Maria Corina Machado.

Meanwhile, the US President Donald Trump who had claimed to have resolved as many as seven international conflicts, had openly expressed his desires to get the prestigious Nobel award. His predecessor Barack Obama had won the peace prize in 2009.

Norwegian Nobel Committee Response

On a question to Trump's claim to the Nobel peace prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said that the decision on awarding the prize is based on the work and will of the founder of the Nobel Prize, Alfred Nobel.

During the media briefing, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the committee, said, "This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So, we base only our decision on the work and will of Alfred Nobel." 

It is worthy to be mentioned here that the Norwegian Nobel Committee, awards the five Nobel prizes, on the basis of the decisions on the 1895 will of Alfred Nobel.

Why Trump didn't get Nobel Peace Prize?

The US President had received various nominations for the prize from several countries including Rwanda, Azerbaijan, Gabon, Russia, and Cambodia. Trump also received support from global leaders such as Pakistani leader Shehbaz Sharif, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for the peace prize.

What Trump said on Nobel Peace Prize?

Meanwhile, Trump had also reiterated several times in the past that he should be awarded the Nobel peace prize. Recently, during the UN General Assembly, he highlighted his contributions in ending "seven wars in seven months". “They’ll have to do what they do. Whatever they do is fine. I know this: I didn’t do it for that. I did it because I saved a lot of lives,” Trump said on Thursday.

Earlier, Trump talking about the peace prize had said, “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize,” He said, “It’s too bad. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”

On Wednesday, when asked about his chances, Trump said, “Perhaps they’ll find a reason not to give it to me.”
