Tehran: The ongoing conflict in West Asia is escalating on a massive scale. While the United States and Israel are launching continuous attacks against Iran, Iran is retaliating by heavily targeting the Gulf nations. Amidst all this, Iran has now issued a threat against Ukraine as well. Tehran has stated that, having assisted the U.S. and Israel with drone technology during the conflict, Ukraine has now become a legitimate target for Iran. They could even launch a direct attack against it.
According to Ebrahim Azizi, Head of Iran's Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, this situation has arisen because Ukraine has engaged in anti-Iran activities in support of the United States and Israel. Azizi wrote on social media, "By providing drone assistance to the Israeli regime, Ukraine has effectively entered this war. Under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine has now turned its entire territory into a legitimate target for Iran." Iran alleges that Ukraine is utilizing its drone expertise to bolster Israel and Western nations against Iran.
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed this threat as "absurd." The situation became even more tense on Friday when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that more than 10 countries have sought Kyiv's assistance in countering Iranian drones. Zelenskyy believes that the experience Ukraine has gained in shooting down Iranian drones during its war with Russia is of immense importance to the world today.
On the other hand, U.S. President Donald Trump has refused to attach any significance to this expertise claimed by Ukraine. Speaking to Fox News, Trump stated, "We actually have the best drones in the world, and we have no need for Kyiv's assistance." Analysts believe that this new threat from Iran could further complicate an already volatile global security landscape.
