Kyiv: Kostyantivka, an important city in eastern Ukraine, is once again in the news amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia is saying it has captured the city. Ukraine is clearly refusing and saying that the war is still going on.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily address that the battle of Kostyantivka is not over yet. He says that what Russia is talking about as "occupation" is not true. The Ukrainian army is still standing in the city and is continuously defending. This city is a major strategic point in the Donetsk area. Many important military routes pass through here, hence its importance is very high for both.
Zelensky fears that Russia may launch a major operation before the NATO summit in Turkey.
Ukrainian Intelligence has received input that the Russian army is engaged in new preparations. It is also believed that during the NATO meeting, there may be talks between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump regarding war and security.
Just a few days ago, Zelensky had warned of an attack on Kiev. A few hours later, missiles and drones fell on the capital, killing dozens of people.
Zelensky said that Ukraine's retaliation is now having an impact inside Russia as well.
In the last few months, Ukrainian drones have targeted Russian oil warehouses, fuel depots and other important targets. This has increased the pressure on both Russia's military and economy.
Zelensky says that it is necessary to maintain international pressure on Russia to stop the war.
He reiterated that Ukraine wants peace, but that peace must be respectful and truly just.
