In our society, Marriage is considered the final destination in one's life. Although, rituals had been challenged time-by-time, and now one of the world's most-followed nutritionists, Rujuta Divekar also shared insights upon this long-lasting discussion.

She recommended 3 essential rules for women to consider before taking the plunge:

1. Build a Strong Career First

Divekar emphasized the core of the discussion, i.e. 'Career First'. She highlights that the women should proceed for marriage only after establishing a secure and stable position in their careers. Being financially independent not only boosts self-confidence but also empowers women to make major life decisions freely, without any external pressure.

2. Must Have a 3-Year Financial Backup

If a woman plans to take a temporary break from work after marriage, she must have her own personal savings. Diwekar advises having an emergency fund that can cover at least 3 years of personal expenses to cushion against any future uncertainties or financial stress.

3. Cap the Wedding Budget at 3 Months' Salary

Noting the growing trend of extravagant and showy weddings, she suggested to keeping a strict check on expenses. Diwekar quoted that the 3 months of one's salary is enough for the marriage. Keeping the ceremony simple and sensible prevents the new couple from starting their life together under financial strain or debt.

Instead of treating marriage as an ultimate goal of the life, it should be embraced as a choice. One should tie the knot when started feeling completely secure and ready, both emotionally and financially.
