'Desi Chicken, Dry Fruits, Fruit Shakes': What Is Imran Khan's Food Routine In Adiala Jail?

Islamabad: For the very first time, details regarding facilities and food provided to the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan at Adiala Jail have been disclosed following the submission of a report by the jail superintendent to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

What did the report reveal?

The three-page report regarding the facilities provided to Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, outlines the living conditions and amenities available to Imran in his seven cell compound.

According to the report, Imran Khan’s seven cell compound includes a 57-foot-long and 14-foot-wide corridor and is adjacent to the 35/37 lawn. 

The compound consisting of seven cells can accommodate 30 to 35 prisoners.

According to the report, Imran Khan spends time in the lawn reading books and newspapers while enjoying the sunlight. 

The report further reveal that Imarn Khan has been provided with exercise equipment like a cycling machine and other gym equipment.

What about the details of Imran's diet?

Details regarding the diet were also shared in the report. For breakfast, Imran Khan is given dates, walnuts, honey, coffee, porridge, lassi, warm milk, chia seeds, and sweet lime and pomegranate juice.

According to the report, Imran Khan's lunch includes desi chicken, mutton, salad, mixed pickles, potato chips, fried eggs, and assorted lentils. In the evening, he consumes almonds, raisins, grated coconut, milk, dates, bananas, and apples in the form of a shake.

The report further states that Imran has access to natural light and fresh air throughout the day and is kept in a secure environment with adequate class facilities provided.

What about Imran's health update?

As per the report, on February 15, Imran Khan underwent a detailed medical check up, which was conducted by a special medical board.

The special medical board included Professor Dr Nadeem Qureshi from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Khan from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

According to the report, the 73 year old’s central macular thickness has reduced from 550 to 350. The vision in his affected right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9. Without glasses, his right eye vision was recorded at 6/24. And the left eye was 6/9. With corrective glasses, the right eye improved to 6/9, and the left eye reached 6/6.

When was Imran arrested?

The 73-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, has been in jail since August 2023, after he was convicted in a string of cases.

According to Imran, the cases were politically driven following his ouster in a 2022 parliamentary vote.
