Centre Crackdown
National News: The central government again showed strictness on digital platforms. Many apps including ULLU and ALTBalaji were banned. They were accused of showing obscene and vulgar content. The government says that this content was spoiling the society and was having a bad effect on children. When there was no change even after repeated warnings, this strict step was taken. This action was taken under the IT Act, so that no platform dares to do this in future.
Apart from ULLU and ALTBalaji, many other apps have been banned. These include Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite and Gulab App.All these platforms were being watched on a large scale in India and objectionable content was being constantly uploaded on them. The government says that these apps were being monitored for a long time and now it had become necessary to take action.
The government says that this decision was taken to prevent the children and youth of the country from going on the wrong path. There were constant complaints from people that even children were watching such content. This ban was necessary for a clean internet environment, so that the family and society are not adversely affected.
These apps were accused of showing content like 'soft porn'.That is, open obscenity, dirty scenes and obscene stories were being served. The government says that such content spreads wrong thinking in the society and misleads the youth.
This action has been taken under the sections of the IT Act.The law clearly states that it is the government's job to stop the spread of pornographic content on the Internet. The government said that there will be zero tolerance on such platforms in the future too.
The government had earlier also issued a notice to these apps and warned them.It was said that they should change the content or else strict action would be taken. But when there was no improvement, the government had to decide to ban it. Some people are saying that this step of the government is right and will keep children safe.On the other hand, some people are opposing it by calling it censorship.Currently, this issue is most discussed on social media.
