New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday achieved a significant milestone in the history of politics in India by becoming the longest serving Prime Minister and surpassing the record of the country's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru for holding the post for the longest time as the head of an elected government after the implementation of the Constitution. PM Modi, who assumed the post of prime minister for the first time on May 26, 2014, has completed 4,399 consecutive days.
Former Prime Minsiter Jawaharlal Nehru took charge as the elected prime minister on 13 May 1952 after the country's first general elections. After this, he remained in this post continuously till his death in May 1964. His tenure as the head of the elected government lasted 4,398 days. Now Modi has gone beyond this figure. This is being considered a big achievement in political circles.
Taking to X, PM Modi shared a Sanskrit shloka and said that defined humility, dedication and dutifulness as virtues to earn public trust.
In the post, PM Modi wrote, "Public service is the biggest test of good governance. Only a person who works continuously with humility, dedication and dutifulness earns public trust."
"Sadanuraktprakritih prajapalantatparh. Vineetatma hi Nripatirbhuyasi Shriyamashnute (Who is always devoted to the care of the people. A king who is humble attains greater prosperity)," the post read.
On Wednesday, PM Modi completed 4,399 days. That means, from 2014 till today, he has been sitting on the chair without a single day's leave. With this, he became the elected leader of India who has been the longest-serving PM. Nehru Ji and Indira Gandhi also lived for a long time, but Indira Ji's tenure was interrupted. Modi's tenure is going on continuously.
