The year opened on a heartbreaking note in Prayagraj. On January 29, during the Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya, crowd control collapsed near the Sangam. Devotees pushed and fell over each other. Panic spread within minutes. Initial reports confirmed over 30 deaths. Many more were injured. Later investigations suggested the toll could be higher. The incident raised serious questions about safety planning.
On February 15, New Delhi Railway Station witnessed chaos. Thousands waited for trains to Prayagraj. Platforms 14 and 15 were overcrowded. Rumours of a platform change spread panic. People started running. A deadly stampede followed. Eighteen people lost their lives. Women and children were among the victims. Poor crowd communication was cited as the main reason.
April 22 brought terror to Jammu and Kashmir. Tourists in Pahalgam were targeted by militants. Gunmen opened fire without warning. Twenty-six people were killed.
