Major Plane Crash in Ahmedabad — Air India Aircraft Goes Down, 242 Feared Dead

An Air India Boeing Dreamliner carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday morning. The London-bound flight went down in a densely populated area near the airport. All 242 passengers and crew are feared dead, though official confirmation is still awaited as rescue operations continue through the wreckage.

A tragic plane accident took place earlier today, Thursday, as an Air India flight on the way from Ahmedabad to London crashed near Gujarat's Meghani area in Ahmedabad airport. The flight carried a total of 242 passengers, including crew members, on board the plane, as per the news agency ANI. As per the video shared by the news agency PTI, it shows thick wisps of smoke emanating from the area.

The incident happened during takeoff in Ahmedabad. It is being reported that the rear part of the flight hit a tree. The amount of loss of life and property in this incident has not yet come. However, it is being said that some injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital.

The accident happened near Ahmedabad Horse Camp, which is near Civil Hospital. There has been heavy damage in the plane crash. The State Police Control Room has confirmed the accident. The number of the plane which has crashed is Air India, a Boeing Dreamliner, AI171. The plane crashed at around 1.30 pm above the Meghani Nagar area of ​​Ahmedabad.

Amit Shah took information about the accident

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to the Chief Minister, Home Minister and DGP of Gujarat. He took preliminary information about the plane crash. Shah has assured all possible help from the central government. The NSG team is on the spot.

Information is also coming out that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board the plane. At the same time, CM Bhupendra Patel has reportedly rushed to Ahmedabad from Surat to assess the situation.

Air India's statement has come out on the accident; the airline took to X and confirmed the development in a post on X. "Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025," it said, adding that the team continues to ascertain the details on the same.
