Bengaluru: An Air India flight traveling from Bengaluru to Delhi made an emergency landing at Delhi Airport on Thursday evening following concerns regarding a possible engine fire. All passengers on board the aircraft were safely evacuated. According to reports, the pilot alerted Air Traffic Control after the possibility of an engine fire was suspected, and the aircraft was subsequently brought down in an emergency situation.
It was reported that a "full emergency" was declared at Indira Gandhi International Airport due to the suspected engine fire on Air India flight AI-2802, which was en route from Bengaluru to Delhi. The aircraft successfully executed a safe landing on Runway 29R at approximately 9:30 PM on Thursday night. Following the landing, the aircraft was towed away. A total of 171 passengers were on board the flight. All passengers and crew members are safe. Flight operations on the runway resumed at 10:18 PM following the incident.
It is being reported that this marks the second incident involving Air India today. Earlier on Thursday, the tail section of another Air India aircraft struck the runway during a landing at Bengaluru Airport. Fortunately, there has been no loss of life in either of the two incidents. Air India has not yet issued an official statement regarding these events. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating both cases.
