National News: Five people died tragically in a massive fire at a plastic manufacturing unit in Bengaluru's Nagarathpet area on Saturday morning. The incident took place in a densely populated area near KR Market. The deceased include four members of the same family. The deceased have been identified as Madan Singh (38), his wife Sangeeta (33), two sons Ritesh (7) and Vihaan (5), and neighbor Suresh Kumar (26).
Madan Singh, originally from Rajasthan, had been living in this building for the past decade. He ran a small business of manufacturing plastic products and mats, whose factory and his residence were located in the same building. At the time of the incident, the entire family was sleeping on the upper floor, where the fire spread rapidly.
The fire department received a call about the fire at 3:14 am, and immediately eight fire engines and over 55 firefighters were rushed to the spot. A senior fire official said the fire was possibly caused by a short circuit, and the warehouse had a large amount of inflammable material, making it challenging to douse it.
As the incident took place in a busy commercial area, firefighters had a tough time getting inside. Earlier this week, a similar fire incident was reported at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. A fire was reported in the maternal and child block at 5:15 pm, which was immediately brought under control by nine fire engines.
No injuries were reported in the incident, as the firefighting system of the AIIMS building was activated in time. However, due to the glass structure of the building, smoke spread rapidly inside, especially affecting the neonatal ward and the IVF center.
