Sabke Ram: In a press conference during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Kohima, Rahul Gandhi expressed disapproval of the upcoming January 22 function at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, stating that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have transformed it into a "completely political Narendra Modi function."
Senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, have respectfully declined the invitation for the Ram Mandir inauguration on January 22, denouncing it as a BJP-RSS event. They assert that the religious ceremony has been co-opted for political gains.
The ceremony on January 22 involves the Pran Pratishtha of Lord Ram's idol at the grand temple in Ayodhya, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to be present. Despite the grandeur surrounding the event, Congress leaders have distanced themselves, citing political overtones.
Responding to questions, Rahul Gandhi clarified that he does not exploit his religion for political advantage. He underlined the distinction between personal and public relations with religion, asserting that he lives by its principles without the need for ostentatious displays.
When confronted with allegations of the Congress and Gandhi family being "anti-Hindu," Rahul Gandhi rejected the claims. He reiterated the party's stance that religion is a personal matter but accused the RSS and BJP of turning the Ayodhya temple into a political project.
While acknowledging the reverence for Lord Ram among millions, the Congress has stressed its adherence to the 2019 Supreme Court judgment on the Ayodhya issue. The party has criticized the timing of the temple inauguration, suggesting it has been expedited for electoral purposes.
A team of priests, headed by Lakshmikant Dixit, will conduct the main rituals for the Pran Prathistha of Ram Lalla on January 22. Despite the absence of Congress leaders, the ceremony is expected to draw attention as a significant religious and political event in India.
