Bihar: In the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, massive voting took place in eight districts of Kosi, Seemanchal, and East Bihar on Tuesday. Long queues were seen in Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj, Supaul, Bhagalpur, Banka, and Jamui since morning. The huge participation of women and youth at the polling stations made the entire election atmosphere lively. This time the voting percentage reached above 68 percent, which is considered to be the highest in the record so far.
This time the voting trend in Muslim-dominated areas of Seemanchal was not as one-sided as before. This time the inclination of votes appeared divided in districts like Kishanganj, Araria, and Katihar. AIMIM's activism has made a dent in the traditional vote bank of the Grand Alliance. Of the four seats in Kishanganj, Congress was ahead on two, JDU had the upper hand on one, and AIMIM made the contest triangular in Kochadhaman.
There was a tough fight between the NDA and the Grand Alliance in Purnia and Katihar. A close fight was seen between BJP and Congress in Purnia Sadar, while NDA was seen getting the lead in the remaining six seats. NDA is leading in four out of seven seats in Katihar district, especially in Kodha, Kadwa, Katihar, and Manihari. Whereas in Pranpur, Burari, and Balrampur, the Grand Alliance fought tough. Former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad (BJP) and Saurabh Aggarwal (VIP) are face-to-face for the most popular seat of Katihar.
In this phase the process remained completely peaceful at most of the polling stations. In the Raniganj and Sota villages of the Araria district, villagers protested, demanding roads and bridges, but the administration immediately resolved the matter. No major disruption was reported due to the presence of security forces and strict surveillance.
Women's participation remained at a record level in Supaul, Bhagalpur, and Banka districts. Long queues of women were seen at the polling stations in Supaul since morning. This time more than 70 percent voting was recorded in the Banka district, which is the highest figure to date. This increased female voting has created the possibility of overturning the electoral equations in many seats.
Talking about Bhagalpur, a friendly contest was seen between RJD and Congress on the Kahalgaon and Sultanganj seats, while JDU maintained its lead on many seats. In Bhagalpur Sadar and Pirpainti, NDA was ahead, while in Nathnagar, Grand Alliance took the lead. JDU is getting the lead on four out of five seats in the Supaul district, while a tough fight is going on between JDU and RJD in Triveniganj.
The bumper voting of the second phase in Bihar made it clear that voters have come out fully prepared this time. The activism of women, youth, and new voters has challenged the old equations. According to political analysts, the effect of such high voting can be seen in the form of unexpected results in many seats.
The second phase of voting was peaceful and enthusiastic, but there are deep political undertones within it. The division of Muslim votes in Seemanchal, increased women's participation in Kosi, and the close contest between the NDA and the Grand Alliance have made the upcoming results more interesting. Now all eyes are on the third phase of voting and the final count, which will decide who will ultimately get the seat of power in Bihar.
