The Bihar Education Department has released the 2026 school holiday calendar for all government institutions in the state. A total of seventy-five holidays, including ten Sundays, have been approved for Bihar schools. Major breaks include the twenty-day summer vacation, Durga Puja holidays, and the long Diwali–Chhath vacation. The department has also listed dates for Makar Sankranti, Basant Panchami, Holi, and winter holidays. All Bihar district officers must ensure that every government school follows this official holiday schedule exactly.

Summer vacation runs from June first. It continues until June twentieth. This break lasts twenty days. Two Sundays fall within the period. Schools must assign homework. Teachers must ensure completion. Work will be checked after reopening. These rules apply to all students.
Durga Puja holidays begin on October seventeenth. They end on October twenty-first. This gives five total days. Diwali and Chhath create a longer break. The combined holiday runs from November seventh. It continues until November seventeenth. Ten days cover Diwali, Chitragupt Puja, and Chhath.
Winter vacation starts on December twenty-fifth. It ends on December thirty-first. Seven full days are given. All schools must remain closed. Homework is mandatory during breaks. Students must complete tasks on time. Evaluation takes place after reopening. Schools cannot skip this rule.
National festivals require attendance. Republic Day programs must be held. Independence Day events are mandatory. Gandhi Jayanti also needs celebrations. Schools close only after functions end. Muslim festival dates may shift with the moon. Officers will update schools when needed. All institutions must follow instructions.
The Bihar Education Department has listed all major holidays for 2026, starting with Makar Sankranti on January 14 and Basant Panchami on January 23.
