A tragic shooting during a tilak ceremony in Bihar’s Gaya on Monday night resulted in the death of a young man. A disturbing video of the incident that surfaced online shows the victim being shot while he was offering money to dancers on stage. One of the bullets struck 27-year-old Anjani Kumar in the head, leading to his instant death.

Family alleges political rivalry behind the murder

The victim’s family has accused local political figures of orchestrating the killing. According to them, Anjani Kumar was murdered due to political enmity. They have specifically named Pintu Sharma and Mahesh Sharma, the head of Angrahi Panchayat in Daudnagar, as the prime suspects. Family members claim that Anjani’s support for a particular candidate in the PACS elections had angered political rivals, ultimately leading to his assassination. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene.

Police investigation underway

The fatal shooting took place in Tuturkhi village, under the jurisdiction of Konch police station in Gaya district. Anjani Kumar was a resident of Pali village in Konch. Upon being informed, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Konch police station, along with a team, rushed to the crime scene at approximately 3:45 AM. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team and technical experts were also called in to assist in the investigation.

Taking swift action, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gaya has instructed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Tikari to oversee the investigation. A special team has been formed to probe all possible angles of the case. The SDPO assured that the investigation would be thorough and that those responsible for the crime would be arrested soon.
