Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (X)

Tamil Nadu: In a shocking case, a Tamil Nadu BJP office bearer was yesterday arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the Madurai district. The arrestee has been identified as MS Shah, facing charges under sections 11(1), 11(4), and 12 of the POCSO Act for an alleged sexual harassment of a minor girl. A police official explained that the matter came to their notice after her father found an explicit message in her phone.

The father, who used to frequently travel for work, claimed that Shah had become friendly with his wife and had taken his daughter out on multiple occasions over the past two years. During those outings, Shah is accused of sexually assaulting the girl and sending inappropriate messages, even promising expensive gifts like a bike and a car. Police arrested Shah on Monday after receiving a forensic report that confirmed the presence of explicit chats. The special court in Madurai has seized both the phones of the accused and the victim as part of the investigation.

Sexual harassment at Chennai hospital

In another disturbing incident, Sathish Kumar, a resident of Ranipet district, was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 50-year-old woman at Kilpauk Government Hospital in Chennai. The incident occurred on Sunday night when Kumar, reportedly intoxicated, entered the hospital under the pretext of job hunting and harassed the patient.

Police confirmed the arrest and are framing charges. Public outcry over Kumar's behavior has drawn attention to more stringent security procedures at public hospitals in order not to allow anything of this kind to happen.

Legal actions and public outrage

Both incidents have sparked massive criticism, and a call for prompt justice to keep vulnerable people safe both in public and private spheres of life. Police are investigating these incidents thoroughly in order to get strong cases against the culprits.
