The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may soon get a new national president, likely around Independence Day, according to reports based on party sources. Current BJP president JP Nadda, who has been in the role since January 2020, was given an extension to lead the party through the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Search for a Leader with Strong Party Roots

The BJP and its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), have not yet officially decided on the next leader. However, insiders say the party is leaning toward someone with solid experience in organisational work—someone who understands the party from the inside.

Who Are the Frontrunners?

A few strong names are being considered for the top role. Former Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is among the top choices. He is from Odisha, where the BJP recently came to power for the first time. His strong connection with the state and party structure may give him an edge. Another top contender is Bhupendra Yadav, the current Environment Minister. He is known to have close ties with Home Minister Amit Shah. Yadav, an MP from Rajasthan, has long been active in party planning and coordination.

Other Probable Names in the List

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also seen as a strong candidate. Now serving as the Agriculture Minister, he brings years of experience and has a good public image.

In addition, senior BJP leader BD Sharma and former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar are said to be under consideration. Both have long political careers and are respected within party circles.

Final Decision Expected Soon

Though no official statement has been made, speculation continues to build. Will the BJP reveal its new president by August 15, or could the decision come earlier or later? Party workers and political observers alike are watching closely.
