New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has started the new year with a trip abroad. According to reports, Rahul Gandhi left for Vietnam on January 1. The Congress leadership has informed the media that Rahul Gandhi's trip to Vietnam is his personal matter and he will return to the country after a week-long vacation.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi celebrated New Year's Day in Ranthambore, Rajasthan, where the Nehru-Gandhi and Vadra families gathered to celebrate the engagement of Priyanka Gandhi's son, Rehan Vadra. Rehan's fiancée, Aviva Beg, and her family were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had travelled to Germany during the last week of the Parliament's winter session. Now, just as the Congress has announced the launch of the MNREGA Bachao (Save MNREGA) campaign from January 5, Rahul has gone on a trip to Vietnam.
The BJP has taken a dig at Rahul Gandhi over his trip to Vietnam.
"We are fortunate that Rahul Gandhi got a chance to spend some time in Ranthambore between his two foreign trips to Germany and Vietnam,” BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said in a statement.
“His halt in Ranthambore was neatly scheduled between two important foreign visits to Germany and Vietnam. Congress leadership, it seems, now comes in transit," he added.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also slammed Rahul Gandhi over his meeting with United States lawmaker Janice Schakowsky – who this week joined seven others in asking the Indian government to release 2020 Delhi riots case accused Umar Khalid from prison.
Rahul is scheduled to join MNREGA Bachao rallies being organised by the Congress after his vacation to Vietnam. In addition, Rahul may also visit the five states where assembly elections are scheduled in the coming months, possibly in January. In the third week of January, Rahul will participate in a training camp for the party's new district presidents in Kurukshetra, Haryana. The budget session of Parliament will begin at the end of January.
