Wedding season is in full swing, but not all celebrations end on a happy note. A bizarre incident unfolded in Lamba Ki Dhani village, Sikar district, Rajasthan, on November 12, when a bride walked out of her wedding and filed a police complaint against the groom.

The ceremony began traditionally with the groom, Vikram, and his entourage arriving at the bride, Manju Jakhar's residence, amid much fanfare. Festivities proceeded smoothly, with the customary exchange of garlands. However, tension arose during the playful “joota churai” ritual, where the bride's sisters steal the groom’s shoes and demand money in return.

Groom's shocking behaviour

When the bride’s sisters asked for ₹11,000 as part of the ritual, the groom reacted aggressively. He not only refused but hurled abusive language at them. Attempts by the family priest to diffuse the situation failed, as the groom’s unruly behavior escalated.

Matters worsened when the groom suddenly demanded ₹5 lakh in cash and a Bullet motorcycle as additional dowry, threatening to call off the marriage if his demands weren’t met. Despite the bride’s father explaining their financial limitations, the groom remained adamant.

The bride takes a stand

Witnessing the chaos, the bride made a bold decision. She walked out of the wedding mandap and headed to the nearest police station to file a complaint against the groom. Authorities soon intervened, attempting to mediate between the two families. However, when the groom refused to budge, he was arrested, and the wedding was officially called off.

The bride, now firm in her decision, stated, “It’s better to cancel the wedding than live in such a toxic environment.”
