The wife of a junior officer reported sexual harassment against a Brigadier in Indian Army forces in Shillong area of Meghalaya. The police from Meghalaya filed a complaint regarding the senior military officer yet have not conducted an arrest thus far. A formal answer from the Indian Army has yet to be received.
A function held at the Officers' Mess on March 8 became the scene of reported inappropriate remarks targeting the soldier by the Brigadier. Her complaint indicates that he persisted with his unwanted advances as she made her disinterest evident and used offensive verbal communication. The situation worsened when he physically attacked her in a sudden movement until her husband needed to intervene.The woman claimed that her life faced danger because her neighbor who is the accused stands as her neighbor.
On April 13 of 2024 the Brigadier supposedly made remarks about the woman's outfit at a housewarming event that was organized by an officer companion. The incident happened two months afterward when he forced to keep hold of her hand while her husband watched during a dinner party at her home. The persistence of these incidents caused such serious trauma that she refrained from approaching law enforcement before the situation worsened.
The police filed charges at criminal facilities following the woman's sexual harassment complaint that included sexual assault and indecent behavior as well as intimidation practices. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are expected to take further action based on their findings. Last Monday the woman whose husband is a Colonel based in Shillong submitted a formal complaint which described several reported improper actions. The woman filed charges against the Brigadier for his behavior that included unprofessional comments and threatening physical action and intimidation.
