National News: On the morning of Independence Day, a scene of life and death was seen on National Highway No. 19 in Fagupur of Bardhaman district. A bus full of devotees collided with a parked dumper with such force that there was a lot of screaming. Two women and eight men lost their lives in the accident, while many were seriously injured. The collision was so severe that the front part of the bus turned into a pile of iron. Blood and broken items were scattered on the road. Drivers coming from afar also stopped and got down to help. All the passengers in the bus were returning after taking a holy bath in Gangasagar.

The bus was moving at a high speed towards Durgapur, and the driver did not notice the dumper standing ahead. In a few seconds the entire bus got caught in a death trap. Some passengers were sleeping at the time of the accident andfell from their seats due to the sudden jolt. Many people got stuck inside the bus due to the collision, and it became difficult to get out. The passengers sitting in the back immediately tried to get out through the windows.

The explosion of death resounded at dawn

The collision at around 7 am was so terrible that people in the nearby villages heard a sound like an explosion. When people rushed to the spot, the front part of the bus was completely crushed, and the passengers trapped inside were groaning. Many people were stunned to see the scene of the accident. Some women were giving water to the injured, while some were helping in removing the debris. Many were making videos on their mobile phones, which later spread on social media.

Police and local people active

As soon as the news was received, Bardhaman district police officers and a large police force reached the spot. Without wasting any time, the local people broke the glass of the bus and started taking out the injured. This spirit of help touched the hearts of the people.

Many people brought water, clothes, and first aid material from their homes. Some held the hands of the injured while others tied cloth to stop the bleeding. The police immediately arranged for ambulances and started sending the injured to the hospital. The entire area turned into a scene of human help.

Painful environment in hospital

The injured were immediately rushed to Burdwan Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared 10 people dead. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment, of whom three to four are in critical condition and have been kept in the ICU.

The corridors of the hospital were filled with cries and screams. The relatives were fainting, and the hospital staff and locals came forward to take care of them. Many injured people needed blood, for which people immediately donated blood. This scene brought tears to everyone's eyes.

Question on the cause of the accident

Police say that the real cause of the accident is under investigation. Whether it was the driver's negligence or the fault of the dumper parked on the road—the answer to this is still awaited. Local people are considering negligence in road safety as the main reason.

Many people said that it is common for trucks to stand without any sign on this highway. Complaints were made to the administration earlier as well, but no concrete action was taken. After the accident, the people of the area are now demanding a permanent solution so that such a tragedy does not happen again.

Value of lives

This accident once again raises the question of when the value of people's lives on our roads will be understood. Accident statistics are not just numbers but stories of broken families. Every year thousands of people die unnecessarily like this. Strict laws and their strict implementation are necessary for road safety. Both the administration and the public will have to understand their responsibility. Otherwise no one knows when and where the next accident will happen—and by then another family will be shattered forever.
