Police have cited the rules related to Shivaji Park, instructions of the High Court, lack of permission from BMC and the possibility of the traffic system being affected.

What objection do local people have to CJP's demonstration?

People living around Shivaji Park say they are not against the right to protest, but frequent large gatherings in residential areas affect everyday life. According to local citizens, noise, crowd and transportation problems increase during such events. Some residents also said that designated places in the city should be used for protests.

A video of the incident has also surfaced on social media.

Why did Mumbai Police not allow the demonstration?

Mumbai Police has refused permission for the proposed demonstration on October 2. According to the police, the old instructions of the Bombay High Court and the rules of the state government regarding public gathering in Shivaji Park are applicable. Police also said that the necessary BMC permission for the use of the ground was not submitted by the organisers.

What are the concerns regarding traffic and hospitals in Shivaji Park?

Police and local residents have expressed fear of traffic jams during the demonstration. Due to the presence of a hospital and residential area in the area, there is concern that the movement of emergency vehicles will be affected due to the large crowd. The police have also mentioned concerns over noise pollution, citing Shivaji Park as a silence zone.

What issue is CJP's protest about?

CJP had announced a demonstration in Mumbai on 2 October. The organization is agitating demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raising issues related to the Election Commission. On the same day, protests against the Election Commission have also been announced at Jantar Mantar and other places in Delhi. However, the Election Commission has rejected allegations of irregularities related to the voter list and described its process as within the rules.

What will KJP do now after not getting permission?

Despite not getting permission from the police, CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke has said that the protest will continue. On the other hand, residents of Shivaji Park have demanded the administration to ensure action as per the rules. Local people have also urged that any large gathering should not affect the movement of the area, the services of hospitals and the daily routine of the people living nearby.
