National News: The people of Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu are celebrating after the BJP-led NDA announced CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the vice president’s post. But the happiest person of all is his mother, Janaki Ammal, who shared both her joy and a special story about how her son got his name.

Why He Was Named Radhakrishnan

Janaki Ammal explained that her son was named with inspiration from former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. She said the family always wished that the child would follow the path of that great leader. “Lord Sundaramurthy has listened to our prayers. I now seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings for his future,” she said, also thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing faith in her son.

A Political Journey Rooted in Tamil Nadu

Radhakrishnan, often called CPR, has been associated with the BJP for decades. He rose to prominence in Tamil Nadu politics when he won the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat in 1998 and again in 1999. Later, he was given the responsibility of leading the state unit of the party.

Beyond Tamil Nadu, he also worked for the party in other states such as Jharkhand, Telangana, and Puducherry. His leadership skills earned him important roles, and today he is serving as the Governor of Maharashtra.

Significance for Tamil Nadu

If he succeeds in the vice presidential election, CP Radhakrishnan will join a short but notable list of leaders from Tamil Nadu who have reached the country’s top constitutional positions. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and R. Venkataraman both served as vice presidents in the past, while Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam became president. This highlights how leaders from Tamil Nadu have continued to play key roles in shaping India’s politics.

Mixed Yet Positive Reactions

Even parties that oppose the BJP in Tamil Nadu have responded with cautious appreciation. The ruling DMK welcomed the decision but confirmed it would not support the BJP in Parliament. Despite this, the NDA has enough strength in the House to ensure Radhakrishnan’s victory.

Election Around the Corner

The vice presidential election will take place on September 9. For Radhakrishnan, this contest is more than just a political milestone—it reflects decades of dedication to his party and the faith his colleagues place in him.

For Tiruppur, it is a proud moment that a son of their soil is on the way to becoming India’s vice president. For his family, especially his mother, Janaki Ammal, it is the fulfillment of a prayer that began when they chose his name many years ago.
