Balrampur Dam Breach Triggers Sudden Flood (Social Media)
National News: A horrific accident took place late Tuesday night in Dhaneshpur village of the Vishramnagar area of the Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh. A large part of the old dam located here suddenly broke, due to which the water filled in the reservoir came out with a strong flow. This water took the form of a flood and swept away two houses. 7 people are feared dead in this incident, out of which 6 people are said to be members of the same family.
Immediately after the accident, an atmosphere of screaming and panic spread in the village. As soon as the police and administration got the information, the relief and rescue team reached the spot. Three bodies have been recovered so far, including a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. At the same time, two small children and another villager are still missing. Villagers believe that the bodies of the missing people must have been washed away in the Kanhar river flowing nearby. The search for the missing people is going on with the help of local people and rescue teams.
In the initial investigation, the continuous torrential rain is believed to be the reason for the dam breaking. Due to the rain for the past several days, the Dhaneshpur reservoir was completely filled. Late on Tuesday night, the water pressure suddenly increased so much that the weak part of the dam broke. As soon as the dam broke, the strong flow of water moved towards the village and two houses on the way were completely destroyed.
This dam of Dhaneshpur village was built in the year 1980-81. It is surrounded by hills on both sides. About 10-12 years ago, the problem of leakage was reported in this dam. Repair work was done at that time, but the villagers say that strong repair and regular maintenance of the dam were not done. Due to negligence, this old dam finally broke, causing this terrible tragedy.
The biggest loss in this accident was suffered by a person named Ramvriksha of the village. At the time of the accident, Ramvriksh had gone out to fetch the cattle. His wife, two daughters-in-law and three small grandchildren were present in the house. The entire house was swept away in the strong current and everyone drowned in the water. Along with this, many cattle also got swept away in the flood.
As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Balrampur district administration, police and rescue team became active. An alert has been issued in the entire area. Patrolling has been increased on the riverbankand in low-lying areas. Nearby villages have been advised to remain alert.
Police say "Rescue operation is going on at a fast pace to search for the missing people. An intensive search of the Kanhar river and surrounding areas is being conducted. Soon all the bodies will be recovered and a full investigation of the incident will be done."
