National News: Panic erupted in the national capital on Tuesday after bomb threat emails were sent to St. Thomas School in Dwarka and St. Stephen’s College, affiliated with Delhi University. The threatening messages triggered a swift emergency response and forced the immediate evacuation of both institutions.
In response to the alerts, teams from Delhi Police, including the bomb disposal unit, dog squad, fire services, and special security forces, swiftly reached the spot to carry out thorough search operations. As a precaution, both campuses were quickly cleared of students, faculty, and staff. So far, no explosives or suspicious items have been found. The emails are currently under investigation, and the entire area has been secured by law enforcement.
This fresh incident comes just a day after similar bomb threats were received by two other schools in the city. On Monday morning, threatening emails were sent to the Navy School in Chanakyapuri and the CRPF School in Dwarka Sector-16. Both schools were evacuated, and no explosives were found.
Authorities suspect that these incidents may be linked, especially considering a wave of similar threats that began in May 2024, targeting numerous schools, hospitals, and public offices across Delhi and the surrounding NCR region.
The investigation has been handed over to the Special Cell of Delhi Police. Cybercrime specialists are now examining the source of the emails. Early findings suggest the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to mask the senders’ digital footprints, making it difficult to trace the origin of the threats.
The pattern of false bomb threats has not been confined to educational institutions. Just last month, Air India flight AI-2948, operating from Mumbai to Delhi, received a bomb threat mid-flight. A handwritten note claiming a bomb was onboard was discovered by the crew. A detailed investigation by the CISF later confirmed that the threat was a false alarm.
In light of these recurring threats, Delhi Police has urged citizens to remain vigilant and not to fall prey to rumors. People are encouraged to report any unusual activity or unidentified objects to the nearest authorities. Meanwhile, security agencies remain on high alert, and efforts are ongoing to track down the source of the threats and ensure public safety.
