New Delhi: Many important announcements have been made for Delhi in the Union Budget 2026-27. Special attention has been paid to strengthening the city's infrastructure, health services, public transport and water supply. Along with this, provision of additional funds has also been made for the modernization of Delhi Police.
The central government has promised to provide Rs 1,348.01 crore for Delhi government schemes and projects run with the help of foreign agencies. A huge allocation of Rs 77 thousand crore has been fixed under central schemes including Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir. This is expected to give impetus to many pending projects in the capital.
The big government hospitals of the capital have gotten significant benefits this time. A total of Rs 10,121.92 crore has been allocated for central government hospitals including AIIMS Delhi, Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, and Kalavati Saran Children Hospital, which is Rs 1,184.92 crore more than last year.
Apart from this, the All India Institute of Ayurveda has also received an additional amount of Rs 977.92 crore. With this increased budget, modern medical equipment will be installed in AIIMS and the construction of super specialty OPD block will be expedited. With the expansion of facilities in Safdarjung and other hospitals, patients will be able to get better treatment.
The government is also emphasizing increasing connectivity between Delhi and NCR. There are plans to expand the metro network and strengthen Namo train services.
The RRTS project of the Regional Rail Transit System i.e. National Capital Region Transport Corporation has received Rs 2,200 crore. The Delhi-Meerut corridor is almost complete, while the process of construction of the Delhi-Alwar corridor will now be started.
A provision of Rs 28,695 crore has been made for metro expansion across the country, in which Delhi Metro will also get a major share. Lakhs of passengers will get relief as the work on several lines of the fourth and fifth phases will be expedited.
Special provisions have also been made in the budget regarding security and basic facilities. Delhi Police has been given Rs 12,846.13 crore, which is Rs 307.13 crore more than last year. With this, the police force will be provided with modern equipment, technology and better infrastructure.
Chandrawal Water Improvement Project will get an assistance of Rs 380 crore to improve water supply. Apart from this, separate budgets have also been fixed for institutions related to urban development like Urban Art Commission, NCR Planning Board and management related to Rajghat.
Overall, this time's budget is being considered as a concrete step towards improving the health, travel, security and basic facilities of Delhi. In the coming time, its impact can be directly seen on the lives of common people.
