The month of Sawan is set to begin on July 11, and the Delhi government has made special preparations for the Kanwar Yatra this year. A grand welcome will be organized for Kanwariyas in the capital, along with various facilities being provided for them.
Minister Kapil Mishra informed that under the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, three major changes have been made. The first change is that Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) will be used to send funds directly to the accounts of Kanwar Yatra committees. There will be no middlemen involved. Any assistance provided by the government for organizing the yatra will go directly into the committees’ bank accounts.
The minister also announced that 1200 units of electricity will be provided free of cost for all Kanwar camps. In addition, the electricity security deposit has been reduced to 25 per cent. He stated that a single-window clearance system has been created to grant permissions for setting up Kanwar camps. Through this single-window system, organizers will be able to receive all required permissions from a single location, allowing them to serve Shiva devotees without facing administrative obstacles.
Kapil Mishra said that millions of Kanwariyas pass through Delhi each year, and Kanwar Seva Camps are set up to provide them with essential services. However, the committees often face a shortage of resources. Taking this into account, the Delhi government has decided to provide up to 1200 units of free electricity to all registered camps this year. Also, only 25% of the standard security deposit will be required for electricity meter installation.
Earlier, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had announced that the government will now directly transfer funds to Kanwar service committees via DBT for tents and other facilities provided in the camps. The government has also eliminated the tendering process for this purpose.
