Rain Turns Delhi Streets Into Rivers, AAP Demands PWD Minister’s Resignation Over Public Deaths

National News: Even a brief shower on Thursday left Delhi drowning. Areas like Dariyaganj, Greater Kailash, Dhaula Kuan, Chhatarpur, and the Outer Ring Road saw heavy waterlogging. Cars were stuck, people waded through knee-deep water, and daily life was disrupted. AAP leaders blamed the BJP’s so-called “four-engine” government for complete failure in managing the situation.

In South Delhi’s Hansraj Sethi Marg, a tree collapsed during the rain, crushing a motorcyclist to death on the spot. AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj shared the video on social media, saying the BJP government’s negligence is now claiming innocent lives, and over 24 people have died due to rains this season alone.

Past Accidents Still Fresh

Bhardwaj recalled heartbreaking incidents — from a 2.5-year-old boy falling into an open manhole on Raksha Bandhan to a nine-year-old dying of electrocution due to an open power panel. He said these deaths show the government’s deep negligence in public safety.

Opposition Slams Flood Mismanagement

MCD opposition leader Ankush Narang hit out at CM Rekha Gupta and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, saying that despite all “planning” and “management” claims, Delhi has completely drowned. Videos of residents rowing boats in Greater Kailash streets have gone viral, mocking the government’s hollow promises.

Big Promises, Zero Delivery

AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha reminded that the BJP boasted of ending waterlogging forever with a “double-engine” government. Yet, from May to August, rains have killed more than two dozen people. He accused ministers of making reels for publicity instead of fixing the city’s drainage.

Drains Left Uncleaned

Jha alleged that despite High Court orders for a third-party audit of drain cleaning, the work never happened. He claimed over half the city’s drains remain clogged, and in Burari, not a single supersucker machine was deployed this year — a first in years.

Call For Minister’s Resignation

Jha directly held PWD Minister Parvesh Verma responsible, demanding CM Rekha Gupta sack him immediately. He said when negligence causes preventable deaths, the minister has no right to stay in office. AAP warned that without accountability, Delhi’s streets will keep turning into rivers after every small rain.
