New Delhi: Recent spells of rain have provided much-needed respite to Delhi and its neighboring cities, leading to a marked improvement in air quality. Nazafgarh, a region often plagued by high pollution levels, recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of just 25, an unusually low figure for the capital city. Such a reading is rare and has been described as almost "heavenly" in comparison to Delhi's usual air quality challenges.

AQI levels across the capital

According to the latest data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), as of 8 AM on Thursday, Delhi's overall AQI was 76, placing it in the 'satisfactory' category. Specific areas of the city also recorded promising figures: Ashok Vihar reported an AQI of 49, Patparganj 54, Chandni Chowk 56, and Punjabi Bagh 58. However, Anand Vihar continued to face air quality issues with an AQI of 102, landing it in the 'moderate' category.

Better AQI levels in Noida and Gurugram

Noida also saw improvements in air quality, with Sector 125 registering an AQI of 65, Sector 62 at 54, and Sector 1 at 51. Meanwhile, Gurugram’s Sector 51 reported an AQI of 85, while Teri Gram showed a reading of 51.

How do we classify AQI levels?

For context, the AQI scale categorizes air quality as follows: 0-50 is "good", 51-100 is "satisfactory", 101-200 is "moderate", 201-300 is "poor", 301-400 is "very poor", and 401-500 is "severe". The recent improvement has placed most areas in the "good" or "satisfactory" range, providing relief to the city's residents.
