Delhi News: This time the month of May in the capital Delhi is looking completely opposite to its traditional form. Usually, when the heat of the sun starts burning the bones and the flames of the heat turn the city roads into furnaces, at that time clouds are hovering in the sky of Delhi and light showers are falling. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain every day for the next six days, i.e. till May 24. Although this rain is not washing away the entire heat, it is helpful in keeping the temperature below 40 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, the sun showed its fierce form throughout the day. The sky remained crystal clear, and the intense sunlight caused significant discomfort to the common people. The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.4 degrees Celsius, which was 1 degree more than normal. While the minimum temperature was 26.9 degrees Celsius. The maximum heat was felt in Palam with a temperature of 43.2 degrees, while Pitampura was the area that suffered the hottest night with 28.4 degrees.
The humidity level fell from 62% to 26% during the day. A double whammy of humidity and heat. Delhi residents are neither able to see themselves getting drenched in the rain, nor are they able to escape from the scorching sun.
The week starting from Monday will bring some relief. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a thin veil of clouds is expected to cover Delhi on Monday. There is a possibility of light rain with thunder and strong winds, whose speed can go up to 30-40 km/h and maximum 50 km/h. The maximum temperature may drop to 39 degrees, while the minimum temperature may remain up to 27 degrees Celsius.
The residents of Delhi have definitely got some relief from the heat wave, but this does not mean that the heat has gone. Now the challenge is of humidity, which increases the body temperature more. People drenched in sweat are not feeling refreshed, but tired. The combination of humidity and temperature in the air makes the body overheat, leading to tiredness and irritability.
Experts believe that all this is the result of climate change and increased activity of western disturbances. The weather cycle in Delhi-NCR has become more irregular than ever. Sometimes heatwaves, sometimes unseasonal rains and now prolonged humidity—these are signs that the city needs to adapt to the changing weather.
