National News: A tragic road accident took place in Deoghar, Jharkhand, early Tuesday morning during the holy month of Shravan, leaving at least five Kanwariyas dead and more than 20 seriously injured. The incident occurred near Jamuniya forest, under the Mohanpur police station area, around 4:30 AM.
According to officials, the accident happened when a bus filled with Kanwar pilgrims collided head-on with a truck carrying gas cylinders. The impact of the crash was severe, causing major damage to both vehicles and resulting in multiple casualties. Several passengers were thrown off their seats, and others were trapped inside the mangled bus.
As soon as the incident was reported, police and rescue teams rushed to the spot. The injured pilgrims were immediately taken to Sadar Hospital in Deoghar for treatment. Many of the victims are reported to be in critical condition.
Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Ravi Kumar visited the hospital to check on the injured and assured that all necessary medical facilities are being provided. Emergency services were kept on high alert to handle the situation.

While police have confirmed five deaths, local MP Nishikant Dubey posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that 18 devotees had died in the accident. However, this number has not yet been confirmed officially. Authorities are still verifying the exact figures and identities of all the victims.

Inspector General (IG) of Dumka Zone, Shailendra Kumar Sinha, confirmed to news agency PTI that the accident involved a 32-seater bus filled with Kanwariyas and a truck transporting LPG gas cylinders. He stated that at least five people have died and many more are injured. A full investigation has been launched.
Every year during the Shravan month, thousands of Kanwariyas travel to religious places carrying holy water for Lord Shiva. This accident has cast a shadow over the religious journey for many families.
The local administration has assured strict monitoring of vehicle movement and safety measures along Kanwar routes to prevent such incidents in the future.
