Earthquake Of Magnitude 4.3 Hits Maharashtra's Nashik; Cracks Reported In Houses

Nashik: Earthquake tremors were felt in Nashik, Maharashtra, late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. The state experienced a minor tremor immediately after the earthquake followed by some tremors in the district of Nashik, which caused cracks on the houses of some people in the district, officials said Sunday. There was no report of any loss of life, they said.

When and where did the earthquake happen?

The Nashik region in Maharashtra experienced an earthquake measuring 4.3 magnitude at 10 pm on Saturday followed by another tremor with a magnitude of 3.3 at 5:33 am on Sunday, according to reports from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

A quake measuring 4.3 and a tremor measuring 3.3 in magnitude jolted Maharashtra's Nashik district, resulting in cracks in several houses, informed officials on Sunday.

No casualties or loss of lives due to the earthquakes has been reported as of now, the officials informed.

It was detected at a depth of five kilometers in the Bhanwad region, near the Hatgad mountain ranges in the Maharashtra-Gujarat border region, officials said.

Tremors were reportedly felt in various regions of Nashik district like Nashik city, Surgana, Kalwan, Deola, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori and Niphad talukas.

How did the people react?

Many people panicked and went out of their homes in the city of Nashik, Surgana, Kalwan, Deola, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori and Niphad talukas of Nashik district, as there were some tremors in the area.

The cracks in the walls of houses were reported in Bhadar village under Surgana taluka and Nanashi village under Dindori taluka, officials of the district administration said.

There were no reports of casualties. No damage was found in the dams in the areas which were inspected by officials, they said.

Avoid fearing, avoid any rumours, but take precaution of safety, said district Collector Ayush Prasad to PTI.

Previously, there was tremor recorded in the district from 25th to 28th July and again on 6th August.
