New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted an early morning raid at the home of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal. According to sources, the raids are being conducted at approximately eight to nine locations, including Gurugram in Haryana. Besides Ashok Mittal, the raids also include locations linked to his son.

The ED also raided Ashok Mittal's Jalandhar residence, where he is also present.

What is the reason of raid?

It is being reported that this action is being taken in connection with alleged irregularities related to Lovely Professional University's funds. However, no detailed official statement has been issued by the agency yet. Sources said that ED teams are thoroughly examining documents and records related to financial transactions. Electronic devices are also being scrutinized to determine fund flow and potential irregularities.

When did Ashok Mittal replace Raghav Chadha?

Ashok Mittal recently made headlines when the Aam Aadmi Party replaced Raghav Chadha and appointed him as the deputy leader of the Rajya Sabha. Therefore, this ED action, shortly after his appointment, is considered politically significant.

What did Bhagwant Mann say?

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reacted sharply to this action. Calling it a political action, Mann wrote on X that the BJP has begun preparing for the Punjab elections, and this action is part of that effort. He wrote, "BJP begins preparations for Punjab elections… ED raids at the home and university of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal..."

Who is Ashok Mittal?

Ashok Mittal was born in Jalandhar, Punjab. His father started a small sweet shop called "Lovely Sweets." Ashok Mittal, along with his brothers, expanded the business, and it has become Jalandhar's most famous sweet shop. Using earnings from his sweets business, he founded Lovely Professional University in 2005, which today is considered one of the largest private universities in the country. He studied law at Guru Nanak Dev University and, working in the education sector, has built an institution that currently enrolls thousands of students.
