New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual meeting on Friday evening with the Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of the states and Union Territories. During this session, the country's preparedness was reviewed in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its potential repercussions for India. PM Modi expressed confidence that, by working together as 'Team India,' the nation would successfully overcome these challenges. The Chief Ministers lauded the steps taken by the Central Government under the Prime Minister's leadership. They also commended the Prime Minister's diplomatic initiatives aimed at ensuring the welfare of Indian citizens residing abroad amidst this crisis.

What did PM Modi say?

The Prime Minister appreciated the valuable suggestions offered by all the Chief Ministers. He stated that these suggestions would prove immensely useful in navigating the evolving situation. He emphasized the need for vigilance, preparedness, and concerted action. Referring to the current situation in West Asia, the Prime Minister noted that India has successfully dealt with such global challenges in the past. He recalled the collective efforts undertaken by the Centre and the states—acting as 'Team India'—during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped mitigate the adverse impact on supply chains, trade, and daily life. He asserted that, even in the current circumstances, this very spirit of cooperation and coordination remains India's greatest strength.

How much emphasis on preparedness?

The Prime Minister observed that the situation is constantly evolving, necessitating continuous monitoring and adaptive strategies. He highlighted that an Inter-Ministerial Group has been active since March 3, conducting daily reviews of the situation and taking timely decisions. The government's key priorities include maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, safeguarding the interests of citizens, and strengthening industries and supply chains. PM Modi underscored the pivotal role played by the states, noting that decisions are ultimately implemented effectively at the state level. He emphasized the need for continuous dialogue between the Centre and the states, timely exchange of information, and joint decision-making to ensure a cohesive and responsive approach.

PM Modi appealed to the states to ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains and to take strict action against hoarding and profiteering. He directed that control rooms be activated at the state and district levels, and that administrative vigilance be maintained, to ensure that no disruptions occur. Emphasizing the importance of planning in the agricultural sector, the Prime Minister stated that the storage and distribution of fertilizers should be monitored prior to the Kharif season to ensure that farmers face no difficulties. The Prime Minister issued a warning to remain vigilant against the spread of rumors and misinformation. He stated that accurate and reliable information must be disseminated to the public in a timely manner to prevent the spread of unnecessary panic. Additionally, he advised people to remain cautious of online fraud and fraudulent agents.
