In a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district, four members of a family, including two young children, lost their lives after their car was carried away by strong water currents on Sunday night.

Accident Took Place Near Odera Village

The mishap happened near Odera village along the Anuppur-Amarkantak main road. According to police, the family was trying to cross a culvert over the Sajha Nullah, which was overflowing due to heavy rains. The driver attempted to move through the water, but the car got caught in the forceful current and was swept away.

Rescue Efforts Faced Challenges

Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sumit Kerketta informed the media that a joint team of local police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) quickly launched a rescue operation. The search began late Sunday and continued through the night, despite difficult conditions like rising water levels, thick forest, and darkness. The team managed to recover the woman’s body later that night.

Bodies Recovered After Dawn

At sunrise on Monday, the search resumed. After several hours of effort, the bodies of the man and the two children were found. The entire operation stretched from 8 pm to 4 am and then again from 7 am the next day.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Chandrashekhar Yadav, his wife Preeti Yadav, their 8-year-old son, and their 18-month-old daughter. The family was reportedly traveling together when the tragedy occurred. This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of crossing water bodies during the monsoon season. Authorities have urged the public to avoid flooded routes and follow safety advisories during heavy rains.
