New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spearheading a transformative phase in India’s transportation infrastructure, unveiling three new Vande Bharat Express trains that will connect Jharkhand to key cities nationwide. On September 15, PM Modi inaugurated these advanced trains virtually from Tatanagar, marking a significant expansion of India’s semi-high-speed rail network.

Enhancing connectivity with new routes

The newly launched routes—Tatanagar-Patna, Deoghar-Varanasi, and Tatanagar-Berhampur—promise to improve both intra- and inter-state connectivity substantially. Notably, the Tatanagar-Patna Vande Bharat Express will cover the distance in approximately seven hours, operating six days a week. The Deoghar-Varanasi route will link two significant pilgrimage sites, further boosting religious tourism and enhancing Jharkhand's rail infrastructure.

This infrastructure initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Modi-led Central Government aimed at revitalizing Jharkhand’s connectivity, industry, and overall development. In contrast, the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government has faced challenges in capitalizing on these opportunities, while the BJP has positioned itself as the catalyst for progress.

Strengthening railway infrastructure

Under the Modi administration, Jharkhand’s railway infrastructure has experienced substantial growth. The introduction of Vande Bharat Express trains on critical routes, such as Ranchi-Patna and Ranchi-Howrah, has significantly reduced travel times, fostering business, education, and personal travel. Projects like the renovation and electrification of the Ranchi-Lohardaga-Tori railway line have further improved freight and passenger efficiency. Additionally, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is modernizing stations and doubling critical lines, paving the way for Jharkhand to emerge as a logistics and transit hub.

Bridging Jharkhand to world

The inauguration of Deoghar Airport in 2022 marked a milestone in Jharkhand’s aviation sector. Serving religious tourists visiting Baba Baidyanath Dham, it also supports local businesses. Future projects, including Bokaro and Dumka airports, will integrate Jharkhand further into India's aviation network, generating employment and enhancing the state’s socio-economic landscape.

Sahibganj multi-modal terminal

The Sahibganj Multi-Modal Terminal, inaugurated in 2019 under the Jal Marg Vikas Project, significantly boosts cargo connectivity via waterways, rail, and road. Strategically located along the Ganga River, it facilitates the transport of goods between Jharkhand, Varanasi, Haldia, and Nepal. This eco-friendly initiative has bolstered exports of coal, stone chips, and cement, transforming Jharkhand into a vital cargo hub.

Economic and industrial growth

Jharkhand's abundant natural resources have fueled the Central Government’s drive for industrial growth, generating employment and increasing incomes. LPG bottling plants in Bokaro and Barhi cater to local energy demands while positioning Jharkhand as a significant energy supplier to neighboring states.

The Sindri Nano Urea Plant addresses a critical gap in the agricultural sector, reducing reliance on urea imports and providing affordable fertilizers to farmers in Jharkhand and adjacent states, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity.

Additionally, initiatives like the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor and Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor are set to accelerate industrial development and lower transportation costs, underscoring the Central Government's commitment to establishing Jharkhand as an industrial powerhouse.

Educational advancements for all

The Modi government has also focused on enhancing Jharkhand’s social infrastructure, particularly in education. Programs aimed at improving educational outcomes for underprivileged communities have been initiated. Eklavya Model Residential Schools provide quality education to tribal children, offering free residential schooling and bridging the educational gap in rural areas.

AIIMS Deoghar stands as a significant healthcare initiative, bringing advanced medical services closer to residents who previously had to travel far for treatment. The Ayushman Bharat Scheme has provided free healthcare to millions, making quality services accessible to the underprivileged.

Empowering tribal communities

Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to tribal welfare is evident in tailored schemes for education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. The development of Birsa Munda Smriti Park and recognition of Hazaribagh's Sohrai and Khovar art with GI tags celebrate Jharkhand's rich cultural heritage. Improved housing, roads, and infrastructure in remote tribal villages have significantly enhanced living conditions, ensuring marginalized populations are included in India’s growth narrative.

Preparing for bright future

As the main opposition party, the BJP is well-positioned for Jharkhand’s upcoming elections. The transformative initiatives undertaken by the Central Government under Narendra Modi present a clear path forward for Jharkhand. While the JMM government has not fully leveraged these opportunities, the BJP aims to accelerate development.
