ASI Sandeep commits suicide 7 days after IPS Y Puran Kumar's suicide (X)
ASI Sandeep commits suicide 7 days after IPS Y. Puran Kumar's suicide: This case highlights the deepening controversy and internal tension in the Haryana Police Department. Just seven days after the suicide of ADGP-level officer Y. Puran Kumar, the suicide of ASI Sandeep Kumar has given a new turn to the entire incident. Now the questions are not limited to departmental pressure or caste-based harassment; rather, the process of allegations and counter-allegations has intensified in this entire matter.
On October 7, 2025, ADGP Y. Puran Kumar shot himself at his bungalow in Chandigarh. His wife, who is an IAS officer, was accompanying the Chief Minister on his Japan tour at that time. After the incident, the police found a suicide note in which Puran Kumar had written the names of 12 police officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor. He had mentioned caste-based harassment and mental pressure in it.
The family alleged that Puran Kumar faced constant humiliation and discrimination within the police department, which led him to take the extreme step. The family demanded an FIR and strict action, but when the action was not as expected, they refused to get the post-mortem done on the body. Amneet P. Kumar, wife of the deceased, is still adamant about demanding justice.
Puran Kumar's body has been kept in the hospital for seven days, and the post-mortem has not been done till now. The police have filed a petition in the court that evidence may be destroyed due to delay; hence, permission should be given to conduct the post-mortem in the presence of a magistrate. The court has issued a notice to the family on this.
On October 14, ASI Sandeep Kumar, posted in the Rohtak cyber cell, committed suicide. Before dying, he wrote a four-page suicide note and recorded a video of about six minutes. In this he has made serious allegations that IPS Y. Puran Kumar himself used to promote casteism and corruption.
According to Sandeep, Puran Kumar had appointed his close ones to important positions in the department and used to get extortion money from them. He also said that Puran Kumar committed suicide due to fear of arrest.
Now this matter is moving in a dual direction. On one hand, Dalit organizations and Valmiki Samaj have started a movement by linking Puran Kumar's death to caste oppression, while on the other hand, Sandeep Kumar's allegations have reversed the entire story. The police is busy investigating both the cases, but it is clear that the politics and differences within the Haryana Police have now become public.
