MP News: In a startling incident, a drone was discovered within the confines of the high-security jail in Bhopal, raising significant security concerns. The drone remained unnoticed for a staggering eight days before it was finally detected by a vigilant guard. This alarming revelation came to light on Wednesday when the drone was spotted near B Block, which houses 69 inmates classified as terrorists in the ISO-certified facility.Drone Details and InvestigationAccording to Malkeet Singh, Additional DCP of Zone 4 in Bhopal, the drone is equipped with a basic camera but lacks any memory or recording devices. Described as a small model readily available online, its presence has sparked an investigation into how it evaded detection for so long. We are currently examining these facts, Singh stated in an interview. The discovery has prompted scrutiny of the jails security protocols. While the state government has initiated an inquiry into the incident, officials have denied any lapses in security measures. Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel emphasized the alertness of jail management in recovering the drone, stating, A comprehensive investigation is underway, and commended the diligence of security personnel.Confusion and OversightHowever, the jail superintendent attributed the oversight to confusion among staff. He explained, There was some misunderstanding, which is why the guard might not have noticed the drone initially. This admission raises further questions about operational procedures within such a high-security environment. The drones owner, local doctor Dr. Swapnil Jain, claimed he purchased it for his son. Following this revelation, Bhopal Police Commissioner Hari Narayanchari Mishra confirmed that tests conducted on the drone corroborated Jains statement. We have sent the drone to Gandhinagar police station for examination to determine its purpose and functionality, said Jail Superintendent Rakesh Kumar.Security Concerns HeightenedThe incident has heightened anxiety regarding prison security, particularly given that the drone was located close to the anda cell, which detains members of terrorist organizations such as SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India), PFI (Popular Front of India), HuT (Hizb ut-Tahrir), JMB (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh), and ISIS.The fact that a drone could infiltrate this facility despite its multi-layered security system—including jammers and CCTV—has raised alarms among both officials and the public. In summary, this incident underscores significant vulnerabilities within prison security systems and highlights the need for rigorous protocols to prevent unauthorized surveillance or breaches.
