In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the residents of Uran town in Navi Mumbai, a 27-year-old woman was found dead, wrapped in a blanket, last week. The victim, identified as Poonam Kshirsagar, was discovered in a suitcase, revealing a horrific crime that has stunned the community.

According to reports from CNN News 18, Poonam was in a four-year relationship with the suspect, Nizam, who worked as a taxi driver. The tragic turn of events unfolded after Poonam learned that Nizam was already married and had a child, a revelation that led to a confrontation between them.

The gruesome incident

On April 18, Nizam reportedly picked up Poonam from Mankhurd and drove her to Khadavli in the Kalyan area of Thane district. The following day, on April 19, Poonam was allegedly killed, and her body was later abandoned at Talekhar along Chirner-Kharpada in Uran. Her decomposed remains were discovered by locals on April 25, triggering a police investigation into the shocking crime.

After diligent efforts, the police confirmed the identity of the victim as Poonam, whose family had reported her missing on April 19. Nizam, originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, was swiftly apprehended by the authorities in connection with the heinous crime.

Call for justice

Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, met with Poonam's family and vowed to ensure justice for the victim. He condemned the incident and highlighted the need to address illegal immigrants from Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, citing this as the third such tragic incident in Mumbai. Lodha urged swift action against the perpetrator within 24 hours to avoid potential unrest and to deliver justice for Poonam and her grieving family.
