UP News: A disturbing case of domestic abuse has emerged from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a husband allegedly inflicted severe cruelty on his wife. Reports indicate that the husband would burn his wife's legs with cigarettes and then scratch the wounds with his nails to reopen them. This horrific behavior prompted the victim to file a complaint with the police, not only against her husband but also against her father-in-law and brother-in-law for harassment.

Life Ruined by In-Laws' Abuse

The victim claims that the relentless abuse from her in-laws has devastated her life. During her pregnancy, she was reportedly thrown out of her marital home, leading to a critical health condition that resulted in the birth of a stillborn child. In a desperate attempt to escape the torment, her family allegedly paid ₹8 lakh to her in-laws, hoping to alleviate the situation. However, the abuse persisted, prompting police action against her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law under various charges.

Demand for Money and Continued Violence

The incident took place in the Beken Ganj area of Kanpur. The newlywed woman, originally from Penchbagh, stated that after her marriage to a man from Manohar Nagar Shuklaganj, her in-laws began demanding ₹10 lakh to set up a furniture business. When she refused their demands, she became a target for physical violence.

Unimaginable Cruelty: Cigarette Burns and Reopened Wounds

The victim recounted how her husband would intentionally burn her legs with cigarettes, resulting in painful wounds. He would then re-injure these wounds by scratching them with his nails. The abuse wasn't limited to just her husband; she alleges that her in-laws actively participated in the mistreatment. Furthermore, she reported instances of sexual harassment from both her father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Tragic Outcome: The Loss of Her Child

On March 27, during her pregnancy, she was forced out of the house. By June, when her condition deteriorated significantly, she was admitted to Ursula Hospital in Kanpur where she gave birth to a deceased child on June 5. The police have confirmed that they have registered a case based on the woman's complaint and are currently investigating the matter. The situation highlights a tragic narrative of domestic violence and systemic abuse within familial structures that continue to plague many women across India.
