New Delhi: India would not want to lose its traditional friend Russia. Even if America threatens to buy oil from Russia, India is not going to be afraid. This is the reason why India has neither stopped importing oil from Russia nor has it begged for anything from America. On the contrary, to further strengthen relations with Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has handed over the command to his two top 'commanders,' National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. Doval has reached Moscow on a visit, while Jaishankar will also visit Russia at the end of August. Do you know what is cooking in America's neighborhood regarding India-Russia relations?
According to defense expert Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) JS Sodhi, India wants to increase its defense relations with Russia because Russia has been our trusted partner for a long time. Doval and Jaishankar's visit to Russia is a big step towards strengthening these relations. India has decided that it is okay with America's enmity, but it will not break its friendship with Russia at any cost. This is the reason why after Doval, now Jaishankar will also visit Moscow.
Defense expert JS Sodhi says that there are reports that India wants to buy more S-400 defense systems from Russia that failed Pakistan's missiles in Operation Sindoor. This is sure to make Pakistan lose sleep at night. Pakistan's Turkish drones and Chinese missiles were destroyed during Operation Sindoor with these defense systems.
According to a report in the Economic Times, India is also planning to buy fifth-generation SU-57 fighter jets from Russia. India is planning to build an MRO facility for the S-400. After Operation Sindoor, there were reports that US President Donald Trump had offered India F-35 fighter jets. But India has not considered it yet. SpaceX owner Elon Musk, who was once an ally of Trump, has also described this aircraft as fake. It is believed that India has shown more interest in purchasing Russia's SU-57 fighter jet as compared to America's F-35. Its need is being felt in the Indian Air Force since the retirement of the MiG-21.
According to many media reports, India is increasing its friendship with Russia because friendship with Russia will increase cooperation in the mineral-rich Arctic region. Apart from this, emphasis will be laid on increasing India's exports to Russia. These things will happen when Jaishankar meets Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
It is also being said in media reports that India is going to organize the next edition of the India-Russia Summit this year. Russian President Vladimir Putin will also participate in it. If this happens, then this will be the first time after 2021 that Putin will visit New Delhi.
India will sign as many defense agreements as possible with Russia. Apart from this, it will also sign agreements in the energy sector. Actually, the European Union has imposed restrictions on energy from Russia. In this, emphasis will be laid on further increasing cooperation in the high-tech sector, including civil nuclear partnership and Arctic cooperation. Jaishankar will prepare the background for this.
