Senior Haryana IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar Shoots Himself Dead at Home

Haryana IPS officer commits suicide: A senior IPS officer in Haryana Y Puran Kumar committed suicide at his official residence in Sector-11, Chandigarh on Tuesday. According to police sources, Y Puran Kumar went to the basement of the house and shot himself with his service revolver. Hearing the sound of the shotgun, his daughter reached there and saw her father's body lying soaked in blood. She screamed and informed the neighbors about the incident. The incident created a stir within the Haryana Police Department.

Postal and Family Situation

Y. Puran Kumar was then posted as ADGP at the Police Training College, Sunaria, Rohtak. His wife, Amneet P. Kumar, an IAS officer, is on a visit to Japan and is part of the delegation accompanying Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Amneet P. Kumar is the Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of Foreign Cooperation. Police have launched an investigation at the scene with the help of a forensic team and a CFSL team. Y. Puran Kumar and his daughter were present at home at the time of the incident. The daughter is mentally unstable, and the exact cause is currently unknown.

Y. Puran Kumar has also been embroiled in controversies. He has been in the news for promotion, housing, and other administrative issues. He once accused several officers of occupying multiple residences. He pushed for the implementation of a "one officer, one residence" policy.
