New Delhi: Amidst the increasing tension in the Middle East, some relief news has emerged for India. Iran has allowed two Indian-flagged LPG tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision can help in avoiding a possible shortage of LPG in India. According to officials, both ships have been given clearance to proceed safely through the strait. However, detailed information regarding this has not been made public.
This decision has come at a time when high-level talks took place between India and Iran. There was a phone discussion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian, in which the regional situation and the security of Indian citizens were discussed.
Apart from this, India's Foreign Minister S. Talks also took place between Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart Syed Abbas Araghchi. It is believed that only after these talks the decision was taken to provide safe passage to Indian ships.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important maritime trade routes. Its importance for India is even greater because almost half of the country's oil imports come through this route. If movement on this route is affected, it may have a direct impact on energy supply and prices in India.
Iran's ambassador to India Mohammad Fatahali said that India and Iran have long-standing friendly relations and both the countries also have common interests. He had indicated that a positive decision could be taken soon regarding providing safe passage to Indian ships.
According to sources, about two dozen Indian flagships are still present in the western part of the Strait of Hormuz. The Indian government is in constant touch with Iran to ensure the safe movement of these ships.
According to reports, a tanker carrying crude oil may reach India on Saturday. This ship has left for India via the Strait of Hormuz carrying oil from Saudi Arabia. Experts believe that if the movement on this sea route remains normal then there will be less possibility of a major impact on the energy supply in India.
