National New: On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned, shocking everyone. This unexpected decision has created a stir in the political corridors of the country. The vice president's term was till 11 August 2027, but citing health reasons, he resigned from the post before time. Both the opposition and the government parties have been affected by his resignation, and many political discussions have started regarding this matter.
Dhankhar submitted his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu under Article 67(A) of the Constitution. The president accepted it on Tuesday. Thus, Dhankhar's term officially ended. Although the reason for the resignation was stated as health, the opposition and many political experts are raising questions on it and linking it to political developments.
According to the report, even after resigning, Dhankhar will get a pension and many facilities. According to the rules, if a vice president has worked for more than two years of his term, he is entitled to a pension after leaving the post. Currently, the annual salary of the vice president is Rs 48 lakh, on the basis of which he can get a monthly pension of about ₹ 2 lakh.
Dhankhar will be allotted a Type VIII government bungalow and will also be able to avail free air and rail travel. A private doctor will also be available under the health facility. Apart from this, he will get two personal assistants and a private secretary for his wife. The electricity and water bills of the bungalow of former vice presidents are also paid by the government. Other facilities like furniture, appliances, and mobile phones are also provided.
After Dhankhar's resignation, the Election Commission of India has started preparations for the vice presidential election. According to the report, the Election Commission issued a statement saying that the election schedule will be released soon. The preparations for the election include the formation of an electoral college, which will include all the elected and nominated members of both houses of Parliament.
Apart from this, the returning and assistant returning officers will be finalized, and necessary steps will be taken to streamline the election process by preparing material related to the last election. Political parties are making intense strategies for this election, as the post of vice president holds constitutional importance.
