Srinagar: A fierce encounter has taken place between security forces and terrorists in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists are reportedly surrounded by the security forces.
The encounter took place between the security forces and terrorists in the Kamadh Nala area, located in the dense forests of the Billawar region. This is the first major encounter of 2026. Three Pakistani terrorists linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed have reportedly been surrounded by the security forces.
According to reports, locals spotted a terrorist in the Kamadh Nala area at around 4 PM on Wednesday evening, who resembled the terrorist seen earlier in the morning in the Dhannu Parol area. After receiving this information, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately launched a search operation and cordoned off the entire area. The hidden terrorists opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated sparking off a gunfight.
IG Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti confirmed the encounter on his social media X handle. This is considered to be the first terrorist encounter of 2026 and the first major operation of the year. The operation is being personally monitored by IG Jammu and SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma. Firing is currently ongoing from both sides, and the operation is still in progress.
It is reported that the security forces have surrounded the terrorists, and a search operation is underway in the area. The security forces are currently maintaining a tight vigil over the entire area. Security forces have stated that the situation is completely under control and the operation is continuing.
