Tragic Road Accident in J&K: Tempo Traveller Falls into Gorge in Doda, 5 Dead, 17 Injured

 A tragic road accident occurred in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. A Tempo Traveller carrying several passengers veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Ponda area along the Doda-Bharat road.

National News:  A tragic road accident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday when a tempo traveler fell into a gorge on Bharat Marg in Doda district. The vehicle was extensively damaged in the accident, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuries to 17 others.  According to officials, the accident happened on Tuesday morning in the Ponda area along the Doda-Bharath road. The tempo traveller, bearing registration number JK06-4847, veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The vehicle was transporting multiple passengers at the time of the incident.

Identification of the Deceased

The accident occurred around 9 AM, approximately 30 kilometers from Doda city. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at a blind curve, causing it to skid off the road and fall into the ditch.
The deceased have been identified as

  • Mohammad Ashraf (35)
  • Mangta Wani (51)
  • Atta Mohammad (33)
  • Talib Hussain (35)
  • Rafiqa Begum (60)

All were declared dead at the Government Medical College Hospital in Doda.

Condition of the Injured

Rescue teams transported 17 injured passengers to the hospital, where some remain in critical condition. Among the injured, five-year-old Uzma Jan, in critical condition, has been referred to Jammu for advanced medical treatment. 

Condolences from Leaders

Locals rushed to the site immediately after the vehicle fell into the gorge. Later, police and other security personnel arrived to take control of the situation. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Democratic Progressive Azad Party President Ghulam Nabi Azad have expressed their condolences over the loss of lives in the accident.

In his message, LG Sinha said, "The tragic road accident in Doda is truly heartbreaking. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones in this difficult hour. Praying for the swift recovery of all those injured." 

Union Minister Jitendra Singh Reviews the Situation

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that upon receiving information about the incident, he immediately spoke with Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh. In a post on Twitter (now X), he stated:

“All possible assistance and medical help are being provided. The Deputy Commissioner is personally supervising the relief operation and keeping me regularly updated. Additional support will be extended as needed.”
